New schedule for lectures
With the beginning of the Summer Semester 2012 the university introduces a new course schedule. The pauses between the courses were shortened from 30 to 15 minutes. The new timing takes place from Monday to Friday between 8:15 am and 8:15 pm and allows to offer seven instead of six courses in a classroom or lab every day. This measure is intended to prevent an overbooking of classrooms due to the increasing numbers of students.
Abolition of the general tuition fees from the Summer Semester 2012 on
On 21st December 2011 the Baden-Wuerttemberg state parliament has decided to abolish the general tuition fees in Baden-Wuerttemberg.
So far the students had to pay for undergraduate programmes and consecutive master courses 500.- Euro per semester. These general tuition fees were charged for the last time this Winter Semester 2011/12. From the Summer Semester 2012 on, they are abolished. The universities will get a financial compensation based on their number of students and the last fees revenues.
Only for the non-consecutive Master's degree programmes and for other postgraduate programmes is the same legal situation as before. Students of these study programmes still have to pay special tuition fees for their re-registration amount 500.- Euro per semester without any time limit.
Changed Statute for Contribution of Seezeit Association for Student Services from the Winter Semester 2012/13 on
The administrative board of Seezeit Association for Student Services decided in their conference from 12.12.2011 new contribution rules. It will be effective for the first time and in this form for the Winter Semester 2012/13. An essential alteration is that the obligation to contribute now applies also for students on leave of absence and students in practical terms (see § 1 no. 2). In other words, there will be no more options for refunding in this regard from the Winter Semester 2012/13 on.
We advise you to notice this for your further study. You will find more information here (homepage of Seezeit). Furthermore you can also ask the Seezeit Service Centre on area A5 (next to the Campus-Café).
Perspective:
The state government of Baden-Wuerttemberg plans the re-introduction of a legal student parliament
("Verfasste Studierendenschaft"). The corresponding law should be effected in summer 2012.
