Tuition Fees
On 21st December 2011 the state parliament of Baden-Wuerttemberg has decided to abolish the general tuition fees from the Summer Semester 2012 on. You can find details at the state portal Baden-Wuerttemberg
.
Since Summer Semester 2007 until Winter Semester 2011/12 general tuition fees had been introduced in Baden-Wuerttemberg. All students at a public university who are pursuing an undergraduate degree or a consecutive Master study degree paid 500.- Euro tuition fees each semester. The revenue from the tuition fees was and will be used to improve the study conditions and the quality of the teaching offer.
For students who are studying a non-consecutive Master degree or another post-graduate degree, there are still special tuition fees at the amount of 500.- Euro each semester.
There were exceptions from the tuition requirements for an academic leave of absence as well as for obligatory semesters abroad and internship which are part of the standard period of study. You find further information to this here. PhD students did not pay tuition fees.
In certain cases students could also get exemptions from paying tuition fees. You find further information to this here. As a rule, foreign students who study in Konstanz through exchange programmes or through other higher education partnership programmes were exempted.
To cover the general tuition fees, students and freshmen who fulfil certain requirements were entitled to a loan from the Landeskreditbank Baden-Wuerttemberg (L-Bank), regardless of the choice of their field of study and parents’ income. It did not have to be paid back until two years after completion of studies and only when a certain level of income has been reached. You find further information to the loan here. Irrespective of this, students and freshmen may obtained student loans from other banks with favourable interest rates.
The obligation to pay tuition fees was effected by a notification about fees and applies during the entire period of studies at the University of Konstanz. They were charged together with the administrative contribution and social contribution. Students already enrolled at the time of introduction of the tuition fees were informed separately. First-year students of later semesters received the notification about fees together with the admittance for studies.
